The process of transformation often does not happen easily or painlessly. Disciples Benevolent Services, a general ministry of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), was known for years as the National Benevolent Association. Disheartening and unfortunate events earlier this decade forced our 120 year-old organization to redesign and redefine itself. Our agency numbers have decreased, but our zeal to minister care and compassion to people in need has flourished.
Disciples Benevolent Services' mission remains focused on serving people in need. We still minister to children and families, and persons with developmental disabilities. A facility in Florida continues to provide services for older adults. The need for us to partner with regions, local congregations, and others to meet the social service needs of individual communities has emerged out of our transformation process.
DBS staff seeks partnerships with congregations that share this vision and have access to resources to pursue that vision. Our role is to partner in organizing and launching these ministry opportunities. Staff persons are eager for these partnership opportunities and are prepared to take action in a practical and timely way. Find out more at www.nbacares.org/page1.html.
