Anti-violence packet now available
Right now, about 100 wars are raging around the world. People
seem unable to live together peaceablydivisions and
hatreds are erupting everywhere. The horrors of genocidal
slaughter and systematic rape, racism, poverty, environmental
degradation, rampant violence and fear plague us and our sisters
and brothers, tearing at the fabric of our societies and indeed
our world. Why can't we just get along?
At the Tulsa General Assembly in 1991, Resolution #9137 asked
fro our congregations to consider seriously how we think about
and respond to violence. While this resolution came specifically
as a response to the Gulf War, the gathered Disciples chose
to call the church into a time of dialogue about how we might
make a witness to the world about all violence. Because of
that resolution, this packet of resources was developed.
Several helpful resources are included which can help your
congregation explore the Biblical issues surrounding war,
patriotism and violence. They could be used by:
Each item in this packet is affordable and can be purchased
in bulk if you need to do that. Look through the materials
and choose the one that would best address your congregation's
concerns. Perhaps in doing that, you will push them to explore
more deeply into this area.
