Angela Herrmann, whose matrilineal Hoosier roots reach back at least six generations, has been affiliated with the Disciples of Christ since the mid 1990s when she served as director of communications for Christian Theological Seminary. From there she landed a post at The Disciple magazine, serving as associate editor. Then in 2000, she accepted her current position at Disciples Home Missions (DHM).

Angela holds an M.A. degree from St. Mary-of-the-Woods College (Indiana) in Earth Literacy and a Bachelors degree from Indiana University where she majored in both journalism and Spanish. She also holds a certificate in Information Technology from Purdue University, Lafayette, Ind.

A self-identified "geek," Angela is no stranger to the outdoors. She is an avid outdoors woman with interests in canoeing, hiking, and cycling. As an amateur naturalist and life-long student of the natural world, she often spends time outdoors simply observing and being present with whatever she encounters. Her experiences inform and guide her spiritual and meditative practices.

Her commitment to environmental protection has led to special recognitions, which include the Hoosier Environmental Council for her volunteer contributions to an Alliance to save an old-growth forest within Indianapolis, and Central Indiana Commuter Services for her efforts to promote alternative transportation among co-workers.

Angela is also active in her community. She leads annual Adopt-a-River efforts and participates in the community garden. In 2009, she began serving a term on the Friends of White River board.

As a writer and photographer, Angela's publishing credits include Disciples-related, Indianapolis-area, and national media (and even three international publications!). In 2008, the Indiana Society of Professional Journalists recognized Angela for her article, "Eating Away at the Environment," that appeared in the April 2007 issue of DisciplesWorld. She began writing a monthly "green" column for that publication in January 2009.

Angela has co-led overseas missions trips in partnership with the Division of Overseas Ministries and the Indiana Region, in addition to participating in a F.A.S.T. project in West Virginia and a Vision Builders! project in Washington State. Her travels have taken her all over the Americas as well as the United Kingdom.

At DHM, Angela's responsibilities include:

  • Creating a comprehensive strategy for the design and use of the DHM Web site. To that end, she:
    • coordinates the appearance of all DHM Web pages with a goal of consistency and quality;
    • coordinates DHM's plans with denominational strategies as they evolve;
    • assists DHM programs with updates, revisions and development of online materials.

This list is not exhaustive, as she continually seeks new and innovative ways to use technology to promote DHM's work. She has co-led four popular Assembly workshops for congregational webmasters and based on responses from those workshops, she partnered with other Disciples webmasters and communicators to develop a two-day workshop for congregational webmasters.

In addition to her Internet work, Angela also:

  • participates on DHM's Home Mission Advocate editorial committee;
  • serves on DHM's publications group;
  • as Coordinator for Environmental Education and Advocacy, she directs an innovative approach to environmental awareness through Return to the Garden, a project promoting community gardening among congregations;
  • is an appointed member of the National Council of Churches of Christ Eco-Justice Working Group;
  • serves on the Church Extension green building team;
  • works in partnership with Week of Compassion and Equal Exchange to promote the interfaith educational program for fair-trade coffee in congregations; and
  • chairs the 2009 Indianapolis General Assembly green team.

She is a member of Central Christian Church in Indianapolis.
