Disciples Volunteering

Summer Internships

Meet our 2009 Summer Interns!

What are you doing this summer?

Disciples Volunteering (DV) of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) offers a phenomenal experience for Disciples and UCC leaders (with a preference offered to seminarians) wanting to work with church groups from around the country. Interns have the opportunity to work in such places as the Yakama Indian reservation in Washington, Los Angeles, Calif., and Alderson, W.V. Week of Compassion/Disciples Home Mission Interns act as liaisons to the local community while teaching visiting church groups the connections between justice issues at their home church and the mission site. Interns receive a modest stipend ($2500) while learning about construction, economic justice, a different culture, all the while having fun! DV may also be able to provide theological supervision for Field Education credit for specific universities and seminaries. During the summer of 2008, eight interns oversaw the work of volunteers around the country!

For more information about Home Mission Internships, please send an e-mail message to Brenda Tyler. DHM logo.

Home Mission Interns are sponsored in part by WoC logo. the Week of Compassion and Disciples Home Missions. Summer interns work in partnership with the following Disciples organizations:

Primary responsibilities for Interns are to host volunteer workgroups who come to each site. Seven to nine interns will be placed each year with varying job descriptions. At the various sites, you will provide hospitality for groups, justice training workshops, a willing spirit, and various other needs which depend on the mission site.

All interns are required to attend a mandatory training with all costs to be provided. Applications are due by March 16, 2009. First preference will be given to candidates who have attended a Leader Development Worktrip. Candidates who are chosen to serve at Southwest Good Samaritan Ministries need to be fluent in Spanish.
