2008 New Day Study Resources
"Whose Voice Is It? Learning to Listen for God" is the theme for the 2008-09 New Day for Christian Women. The seventh year of this program asks you to engage in listening for God's voice through several channels:
- Personal testimonies of how the Bible has shaped individual lives;
- A look at Bible stories in which people literally heard the voice of God;
- Some hints on using Bible study tools to "turn up the volume" on God's voice;
- Stories of God's power told in the voices of our sisters far and wide, including the word of women who went to the Woman-to-Woman Worldwide trip to Haiti and the Dominican Republic and who participated in the Women's Action Web project of the Office of Disciples Women; and
- Ideas for praying with scripture to amplify God's voice in our souls.
The contents include:
- Learning the Sound of God's Voice: Opening our ears and our hearts (Genesis 1:1-3:24);
- Compelled by God's Voice: Spirits moved and lives moving (Exodus 3:1-4:17);
- Helping Each Other Hear God's Voice: Saying "I heard that too" (1 Samuel 3:1-21);
- Listening for God's Quiet Voice: Slowing down enough to hear clearly (1 Kings 19:1-18);
- Listening for God's Mercy and Justice: Seeing beyond my own need (Luke 1:1-80);
- Listening to God's Voice in my Sister: Hearing God's echo in someone else's voice (Luke 10:1-42);
- Sharing the Sound of God's Voice: Witnessing to what I know about God (Matthew 28:16-20);
- When the Voice of God Surprises Us: Being ready to listen on short notice (John 20:1-31); and
- Hearing God's Voice in Many Languages: The joy of praise and prayer (Acts 2:1-47).
