Continuing Advocacy on Federal Immigration Reform

A recent article in Christian Century gives a good overview of what is currently happening on federal immigration reform, including the details of legislation that is being proposed. It is important that people of faith continue to contact their Senators and Representative to urge action on federal legislation that will bring comprehensive immigration reform. Even if you have already contacted your Congresspersons on this issue, contact them again to let them know that you want federal action on immigration reform. Ask for legislation that will:
• Uphold family unity as a priority of all immigration policies;
• Create a process for undocumented immigrants to earn their legal status and eventual citizenship;
• Protect workers and provide efficient channels of entry for new migrant workers;
• Facilitate immigrant integration;
• Restore due process protections and reform detention policies; and
• Align the enforcement of immigration laws with humanitarian values.

For those concerned about the legislation passed in Arizona, prayer vigils and fasts are being planned across the country under the title Isaiah 58 Summer

Remember, Sunday June 20th is World Refugee Day
