R. Wayne Calhoun, Sr.

R. Wayne Calhoun Sr., is the Executive for the Office of Evangelism & Congregational Transformation for Disciples Home Missions of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in the United States and Canada. He began his tenure on October 1, 2003. Dr. Calhoun’s major focus is on providing leadership in evangelism, church growth, transformation, and vitality for the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) with an emphasis to African-American congregations.

Dr. Calhoun is an ordained minister of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and received a Master of Divinity from Brite Divinity School at Texas Christian University, Fort Worth, Texas. Dr. Calhoun also earned a Doctor of Ministry degree at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary in South Hamilton, Massachusetts and he holds an undergraduate degree from Jarvis Christian College in Hawkins, Texas. With over 38 years of pastoral and church leadership experience, Dr. Calhoun has served in various capacities at Disciples congregations throughout Texas including Contemporary Christian Church, Houston, North Bolton Street Christian Church, Jacksonville, East Side Christian Church, Longview, Pine Hill Christian Church, New Summerville, New Mount Olive Christian Church, Henderson, and Northside Christian Church, Tyler.

Dr. Calhoun is active in various ministerial and community associations. He was honored with an Award of Recognition for the Timothy Wall of Fame and an  Award of Recognition for Ordination into Christian Ministry both, from University Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), Houston, Texas.

The Texas native is married and has three children. The position of Evangelism is one of three merger agreement positions between the National Christian Missionary Convention and the United Christian Missionary Society.
