Job Title: Associate Director for Chaplains and Specialized Ministries
Reports to: Director of the Office of Christian Vocations
Hours: Half-time Position
Starting Date: May 1, 2025 (Negotiable)
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Associate Director for Chaplains and Specialized Ministries will have primary responsibility for overseeing the work DHM does in support of military and institutional chaplains, as well as those engaged in specialized ministry settings. This responsibility includes overseeing the credentialing process, providing care and support, and coordinating educational programming and resourcing for chaplains and those in specialized ministry settings.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversee the process for ecclesial endorsement of Disciples Chaplains in military and institutional settings by working with other DHM OCV staff and committees on ministry to facilitate timely and effective endorsement.
- Review and approve applications for endorsement and serve as the official ecclesial endorser for the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).
- Help research and implement technology to ensure efficient processes related to endorsing and supporting chaplains.
- Produce, curate, and distribute resources in support of Disciples chaplains and other clergy in specialized ministry settings by working with others to identify and develop training and informational content (podcasts, videos, webinars, etc.) to aid in the professional development of chaplains and others in specialized ministry settings.
- Collaborate with other Disciples general ministries and regions to enhance their engagement with and support of chaplains and others in specialized ministry settings
- Facilitate networking and pastoral encouragement among Disciples chaplains and other Disciples clergy in specialized ministries settings, by designing and implementing scalable and sustainable approaches to enable networking and peer-to-peer support.
- Represent the work and experiences of chaplains to the wider church and support efforts to secure resources for supporting chaplaincy and specialized ministries.
REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Detail-oriented, and skilled at managing multiple priorities easily. Absolute ability to handle confidential information.
- Self-starter and the ability to work unsupervised.
- Ability to work effectively in a team setting.
- Strong computer and internet skills; proficiency with MS Office, Teams, and other workplace productivity software.
- Flexibility and effective time management while maintaining superior work quality.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
- Master of Divinity degree required
- Ordination and current standing required
- Experience serving as a military chaplain strongly preferred
- Experience with and/or knowledge of hospital chaplaincy preferred
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- No direct supervisory responsibility.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- This position is deployed with the ability to work remotely.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- The physical demands require occasional lifting of up to 40 lbs.
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
TRAVEL REQUIRED:
Some travel may be required for this position, for assemblies, conferences, and other events deemed necessary by DHM Leadership.
