Disciples Presence at Standing Rock

November 2, 2016

As this post is being released, a group of Disciples have made plans to travel to Standing Rock and visibly represent the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) by bearing witness that God’s light is greater than the darkness of the world.

The Reverend Laurie Pound Feille and the Rev. Dan Adolphson, both from the First Christian Church Minneapolis, MN, and the Rev. Kaji Dousa from Park Avenue Christian Church in New York City, NY, participated in a virtual Prayer Service at 2:30 p.m. EDT, November 1, 2016 to bless and send them on their journey to Standing Rock in behalf of all Disciples. Clergy, Thandiwe Dale-Ferguson from Layfette, CO, Colin Douglas from Nixa, MO, Emily Mills, Washington, DC and Dustin Bower from Hastings, NE will also be traveling to Standing Rock.

General Minister and President, Sharon Watkins, along with Disciples Home Missions President, Ron Degges, and Green Chalice Ministry leaders, Carol Devine and Scott Hardin Nieri, worked together to establish the Prayer Service. Associate General Minister and Administrative Secretary of the National Convocation, Timothy James, also participated in the Prayer Service along with many individuals at The Disciples Center and across the life of our church.
