An outpouring of our churches and her general and regional expressions are praying for and responding to the devastation in the wake of hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Maria. The hurricanes have passed and now the emergency assistance and recovery efforts are under way. The Bible says the prayers of the righteous avail much – in other words, prayer makes a difference in the effectual witness of God’s compassion being unleashed in the hearts of all who are willing to help save lives.
Pray for the compassion in Christ to abound in all who both directly and indirectly answer the call in helping our brothers and sisters in their time of need in the islands of Antigua, Barbuda, Saint Martin; Saint Barthelemy, Anguilla, Saint Kitts and Nevis; British and US Virgin Islands; Turks and Caicos; Dominican Republic; Haiti; and Puerto Rico – as well as the US mainland states of Florida thru Texas!
In the words of Spanish mystic and Carmelite nun Saint Teresa of Ávila:
“Christ has no body now, but yours.
No hands, no feet on earth, but yours.
Yours are the eyes through which
Christ looks compassion into the world.
Yours are the feet
with which Christ walks to do good.
Yours are the hands
with which Christ blesses the world.”
We especially lift up the ministries on the front line giving witness to the hands and feet of Christ! Office of the General Minister and President, Week of Compassion, Global Ministries, Pension Fund, Disciples Home Missions, Disciples Church Extension Fund, Hispanic Ministries, North American Pacific Asian Disciples, National Convocation, Chalice Press, Regions & Congregations.
God bless and guide all of these saving acts in the name of Jesus!
