Disciples Volunteering invites prospective Servant Leaders to attend a Long-term Volunteer training event. If interested please fill out the application (*to be attached*). Because Long-term Volunteers (LTVs) serve as representatives of Disciples Volunteering, Disciples Home Missions, and the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), all LTVs will undergo a background check before serving on site.
Disciples Volunteering works with a wide variety of partners to support local mission opportunities that invite traveling mission groups to come and spend about a week at a time on site. This is true whether responding to Disaster, collaborating with a Mission Center, or partnering with other Faith Based Groups. In many of these Missions, the quality of these week-at-a-time experiences depends on availability of Long-term Volunteers to provide servant leadership.
Often, Long-term volunteers serve on site for 3 weeks to 3 months at a time. In this way, Long-term Volunteers build trust in the community as they meet neighbors, partner with local organizations, and make regular trips to the lumberyard or the grocery store. Sometimes, this on-site leadership takes the form of supervising construction for a particular project. At other times, it’s a ministry of feeding as meals are coordinated for large groups serving at Special Projects. Long-term Volunteers are critical to the success of Disaster Response Mission Stations, where they serve as Mission Station Managers. In this capacity, they extend hospitality to Mission Groups that arrive each week and they provide a continuity of leadership for local organizations providing the work to be done. And the role of Long-term Volunteers is changing and evolving. Some now serve behind the scenes, as registrar of specific Mission Stations. If you have gifts to offer in support of Mission efforts and some time on your hands, Disciples Volunteering would love to help connect you with opportunities for offering those gifts in Servant Leadership with the Church.
