In December 2000, the United Nations General Assembly established that “Refugee Day” would be celebrated each year on June 20th, and encourage local communities to select time and ways near this date to honor the strengths and contributions of refugees in their areas. You’re invited to do the same! Contact our Refugee & Immigration Ministries office for ideas.
Especially, consider supporting refugees with the power of your advocacy voice. Learn through the 2017 “World Refugee Day Advocacy Toolkit” about how you can especially help support Syrian refugees, persecuted religious minorities, and children fleeing violence in Central America this year.
Publicize World Refugee Day through this Disciples flyer, and then look here for additional help in planning and preparing for a local World Refugee Day event and legislative visits.
