“Ladies in Waiting or Wanting?”

“Lady-in-waiting, is a female personal assistant at a court, royal or feudal, attending on a royal woman or a high-ranking noblewoman.”

Good day to all my friends and sisters who are directly connected to the royal family of God. Yes, if you are a child of God, then you are indeed considered royalty. As within the lineage of any royal family, I salute the Queen in you. According to Psalm 139, “You are fearfully and wonderfully made.” Although, we are trying to flatten the curve, you may not feel like royalty or anything else. However, for the sake of our time together, please receive this invitation to climb higher, smile wider and experience the love of God being sent from my heart to yours. Who knew the year 2020, was going to be tagged as the year of “The Great Big Quarantine?” I certainly, did not. At any rate, I am determined to take it all in stride. How about you? As a Clergy woman, I’ve been graced to hear the hearts and voices of women from all over the country as they share some frustration and fear around the effects of COVID-19. These stories may be very similar to your own. Times of worry about family, children…jobs, and healthcare to name a few. These voices and words of concern are both valid and valuable, as we look for ways to stay safely connected, and grounded in a time of uncertainty. Admittingly, there’s a part my own singing heart that’s ready for this time of quarantine to come safely to an end. So, I gather with the rest of you, as a “Lady-in-waiting.”

Waiting patiently or not so patiently for the ban to be lifted from our respective geographical location is proving to be overwhelming. Heading out for a meal at your favorite restaurant, movie or a relative’s home seems so close or maybe even light years away. In the stretch of it all, even I began cooking meals. Yet, the voices of those women are in my ear. The intensity of their concern around issues of not-knowing and feeling as if there isn’t enough information to keep us safe or grounded is at the forefront of my mind. Yes, we have all been affected greatly by this sudden change. I am compelled to remind you that God is dwelling amongst us, embodied within us and is steadily helping us not lose control! Can I get a witness? Do not lose control as we wait. Sisters, how are you making the most of the sacred time we’ve been given? How are you using this opportunity for extreme creativity and divine connection? Don’t wait; make haste in finding ways to step into the wading pool of life.

Many have been waiting to spend more time with the family or to just simply REST! I am going to take the risk, and offer a ‘peculiar thought,’ “what if God is calling us to do something magnificent and completely out of the box during this life-altering interruption?” Would you do it? What if God is inviting us to shift the gears of the car, while pivoting from one lane to the next? All the more encouraging a reshaping of your plans for God’s. Being well aware that some of you may reject this notion, I am willing to go on record by saying, “in the midst of this ‘stay-cation,’ God is up to something.”

You may be asking, what exactly at the heart and soul of this particular Monday Moment? It is simply being shaped around this question, are you in a waiting or wanting timeframe? Are you waiting for the country to reopen its doors or wanting to know the plan and next move of God? Wherever you are and whatever you want… Maybe, just maybe God is at work in the Earth, and we get to be the recipients of some of God’s most choice blessing, while experiencing some of God’s greatest glory on displayed in and though human beings. We have all witnessed the love and generosity of those who are on the frontlines during this pandemic. We have all heard stories of bravery shown by our essential workers. Daily we benefit from the use of technology and maybe just maybe, this is the moment we’ve been waiting for… waiting for a chance to go, grow and expand our minds into a healthier place. Maybe God is offering, asking, and inviting us to think bigger, and more deeply about the calls we have on our lives. The call to faith, family, career and this world.

Do you have any unfinished business floating around out there that you want to complete? That which follows you throughout the day, and keeps you up at night? Friends, at the seat of our souls there could be a longing to do something that we have been too afraid to accomplish. Can I ask you what that something is? Are you willing to go on that journey? You have time on your hands. What is that goal that you sat on the shelf a long time ago? Sisters, everything has a shelf life, an expiration date. God is showing us the way to move beyond our frustrations and fears into a faith and our frustrations… God is redeeming our time, 2 Peter 1:3-8 (NIV) “God’s divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness… We have time to get some of dreams accomplished! We have been given the chance to pick some things back up from where we began. And you have what you need to move forward. What do you want to do, and what are you waiting on?

Have you heard the saying, “I cannot wait until things get back to normal?” What exactly is normal? Is it back to paper or plastic? Is it back to long lines at the local drive-thru, and everyone eating on their own schedule? Is it back to everyone on their SMART devices and not looking into the eyes of the one they are addressing? Is that the normal we are rushing towards? Folks, we are in the midst of a ‘new version of normal.’ The one that invites us to expand our love and secure our relationships. The kind that embraces our neighbor and express freedom in ways in which we have not in a very long time. This new normal is not orchestrated by human hands. It is designed by the mind, heart and beauty of God.

There is so much creativity floating around. It is time to bring these ideas to life. There are books to be written, and songs to be composed and arranged. What are you waiting for? What role will each of us play as we gain re-entry back into the workspace, church life and the whole of society? I invite us to dream, claiming a new and liberating role in the quest for a life that reflects the true “Kingdom of God.” Let’s hit the reset button. Resetting the joy, peace, life and ingenuity of who we are truly meant to become in this life, and in the next one, too. I believe that you and I get to negotiate some of the terms of these gifts. So, I ask again… “Ladies, what are you waiting for?” Might I suggest that you are the royalty of God, and are indeed the one you have been waiting for…
