The Disciples guide to organizing community gardens

Discover what is possible when Disciples create community gardens!

The issues related to the environment are so complicated that people don’t fully understand how their day-to-day choices can have social and ecological consequences, at home and around the globe. However, most people are familiar with gardens. When you create a community garden, you will discover that:

  • Your garden becomes a centerpiece of your community and neighborhood;
  • You’ll incorporate educational opportunities on issues of poverty, hunger, environmental and social
    issues into your congregation’s work;
  • You’ll develop opportunities for leadership for
    social and ecological activism;
  • You’ll create opportunities for intergenerational
    and intercultural sharing in your garden;
  • You’ll plant the seeds of food security; and
  • You’ll forge partnerships with local food
    banks and farmers markets
