Care for God’s Creation

Our mission is to connect Christian faith, spiritual practice and creation consciousness in order to demonstrate the fullness of God’s shalom. Out of our call to “do justice” (Micah 6:8), we strive to demonstrate the fullness of God’s shalom through living out our faith by caring for God’s creation. In keeping with this demonstration, a resolution concerning carbon neutrality was passed at the 2017 General Assembly. From Hawaii and Washington to Ontario and Florida, and everywhere in between, Disciples congregations are caring for creation in unique and inspiring ways.

Celebrating the International Day of Biological Diversity

Topic: Advocacy, Environment, Justice · Article · May 2025
By: Rev. Ryan Cullumber
International Day for Biological Diversity is a reminder to give thanks and feel gratitude for this amazing planet and all the life that it supports. A day to recognize that the human race is not somehow apart and separate from the natural world but intricately connected. To not only feel the interconnectedness between the vast diversity of people but to also include the vast diversity of all forms of life. To see the Body of Christ as encompassing all of the natural world, not just humans.

Celebrating Earth Day

Topic: Climate Change, Environment · Devotional · Apr 2025
By: Rev. Ryan Cullumber
It is humbling to slow down enough to think how amazing this planet is and how the Earth provides everything we need to survive and thrive. And not just for humanity but for all of life from the microscopic organisms to the Blue Whales. The Earth is truly a gift from God.

World Water Day Reflection

Topic: Climate Change, Environment, Justice, Youth Ministry · Article, Explainer · Mar 2025
By: Rev. Ryan Cullumber, Associate Pastor at Harbor Christian Church
World Water Day is March 22nd. World Water Day celebrates water and inspires action to tackle the global water crisis. Ecosystems supply, purify and protect freshwater resources. Apart from directly captured rainwater, humans get every drop of freshwater from either groundwater, surface water or frozen water.

This season in our churches, homes, and schools feels heavy, but our collective capacity to strengthen one another and our communities is great. We are an extension of our magnificent Creator--one who emboldens, loves, and heals us toward a world that is unlike empire. The Realm of God moves by the Spirit in all living things, cultivating justice and harmony one precious load of anointing at a time. It is imperative we lift up and carry the power of the Holy Spirit in refreshing ways. Our legions of lay leaders fortify the church for every season, especially those seasons that dare us to follow Jesus. “Weightlifters” provides you with enough development materials for monthly laity training over the next year. Let us lean into intentional conditioning and be well!
