Tom Yates, Chaplains’ Endorsement Officer
The Rev. Dr. Tom Yates serves as the Chaplain Endorsing Officer for the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in the United States and Canada. In this role he oversees Ecclesiastical/Denominational Endorsement to Federal (Army, Air Force, Navy, Veterans Administration, Federal Prison) Chaplains and Institutional (hospital, hospice, workplace, community law enforcement and fire services, retirement center, etc.) Chaplains.
Chaplain Tom is a graduate of Claremont School of Theology – M.Div. ‘87/D.Min. ’88 with extensive support from the Disciples Seminary Foundation. He served in ministry as a congregational pastor in the Northern Lights Region, as a hospital chaplain, and as a US Army Chaplain. He is Board Certified with the Association of Professional Chaplains. Tom and his wife Patty live in Vancouver, WA and they are parents to two sons, two daughters, and grandparents to eight.
As denominational endorser, Chaplain Tom serves as a liaison for our Disciples Chaplains with the General Church, Regions, and the Armed Forces Chaplains Board. An experienced chaplain himself, he is able to support with empathy and speak with knowledge of the blessings and challenges of chaplain ministry.
