Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), Disciples Women ministry is excited to announce recruitment for the Executive Director of the Office of Disciples Women.
The Executive Director of the Office of Disciples Women reports to the International Disciples Women’s Executive Committee (IDWM) and serves on the Council of General Ministries of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). She provides general staff support for the Disciples Women’s Leadership Council (DWLC) gatherings and serves as the Disciples Women representative to other ecumenical and interfaith organizations.

Executive Director of Disciples Women
Job Description
The following description describes the general nature and work of the ministry of the Executive Director. It is not intended to be construed as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities and duties needed to engage in this ministry. The responsibilities and scope of the position are determined in partnership with the President and CEO of Disciples Home Mission and the IDWM Executive Committee and are outlined in the Principles of Mutuality between DHM and IDWM.
The Executive Director will be a member of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). As a woman who draws on a deep personal faith, she will articulate and exhibit a passion for women’s ministries as the Executive Director of the Office of Disciples Women. She is responsible for:
- The development of general planning for the life and ministry of women in the congregations and regions of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in the United States and Canada
- Related laity emphases and programs
- Educating and advocating on justice issues, especially women’s issues
- Regular communication regarding programs to regions and congregations
- General program planning and implementation of Disciples Women’s Ministries in the United States and Canada
- Relating and representation of women to the priorities, mission and ministries of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ)
The Executive Director reports to the International Disciples Women’s Executive Committee and serves as that organization’s Secretary and Treasurer. The position is housed in Indianapolisand falls under the guidelines and employment policies of Disciples Home Missions; however, the job may be handled remotely with frequent travel to Indianapolis. This is a salaried position with benefits under the DHM employee handbook.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Executive Director:
- Directs the Office of Disciples Women in all of its functions and responsibilities
- Is responsible for the administration of the total programming, including staff and travel, for the office
- Ensures that timely and frequent public relations communications are created regarding the work of Disciples Women, including articles and updates for the women’s website, Just Women magazine and other forms of electronic media
- Serves as secretary/treasurer for International Disciples Women’s Ministries and plans for and administrates all Executive Committee meetings in partnership with the President of IDWM
- Serves as an ex officio staff member of all task teams and committees of IDWM
- Provides general staff support for the Disciples Women’s Leadership Council (DWLC) gatherings
- Is responsible for signing contracts and other legal documents for IDWM
- Serves as the Disciples Women representative to other ecumenical and interfaith organizations as invited
- Serves on the Council of General Ministries
- Serves on the Justice Table when invited
- Partners/collaborates with general ministry partners
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
- Knowledge of the scope, vision and theology of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ)
- Experience in congregational and/or regional church leadership (corporate management may be considered in lieu of church leadership if applicable)
- Strong computer and technology skills, with a willingness to learn new programs as needed
- Excellent management and team building skills
- Ability to work effectively with diverse groups
- Strong written and oral communication skills (experience with public speaking and/or preaching helpful)
- Strong administrative, organizational and time management skills
- Ability to set and implement short and long-range goals
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Previous experience setting and managing budgets
- Knowledge of leadership development skills
- Ability to facilitate group processes
- Strong conflict resolution skills
- Ability to raise and generate funds for Disciples Women
- Flexibility, creativity and a willingness to think outside the box
- Ability to travel frequently
WORK SCHEDULE
The DHM work week is 36¼ hours per week; this is an exempt position that will also require extensive travel and frequent weekends and evenings. This position will be based on a five-year contract.
