About us

The Young Adult Commission represents Disciples young adults across the life of the church. We strive to build effective communication networks, offer awareness for advocacy opportunities, and encourage congregations to prepare young adults to lead our church.

Our core purpose

Connect and empower Young Adults to engage in the ministry of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).

Our duty

• Connect Young Adults with each other across our denomination.
• Plan Young Adult events during General Assembly.
• Work with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) to encourage and strengthen Young Adult leadership roles.
• Provide resources to create and support local congregations and regions as they develop and sustain effective Young Adult ministries.
• Respond to requests from members of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), specifically our Young Adults to improve Young Adult ministries.

Our History

Sponsored by Disciples Home Mission (DHM) and supported by Higher Education and Leadership Ministry (HELM), the Young Adult Commission was created to address the need of Young Adults in the Disciples Church. Planning the pre-assembly for Young Adults leading up to the General Assembly in 2005, (Portland, Oregon) was the first assignment for the Young Adult Commission.
