“Hi, I’m Chrissy Stonebraker-Martinez, Co-Director, Inter-Religious Task Force on Central America & Colombia in Cleveland, Ohio.  I just want you all to know we have been suffering when we lose our community members.  In Ohio, there is a man who works with an amazing organization, and had been in the community over 20 years.  He was recently deported back to Mexico, after being someone who was really trying to support his community and to find grace and welcome in his community as well….Many people were concerned about his safety.  He was murdered in Mexico a couple of weeks ago….Especially in Central America….rates of homicides (for persons deported) are very, very high.  It means so much to us to support refugees from Central America.  More than 40 persons have been murdered in Honduras just since November, and hundreds have been killed in Columbia just this year….It’s important to me and many in my faith community to be supportive of ending violence in all forms….and to take responsibility for…what our policies have done to either cause or exacerbate these issues….I implore you to support resettling a mere 75,000 refugees this year (as they)…need your support.”  — Chrissy Stonebraker-Martinez, Co-Director, Inter-Religious Task Force on Central America & Colombia in Cleveland, Ohio.
