Disciples Women’s Ministries is a conduit for diverse connections empowering each woman to find her voice and live out her call. (Micah 6:8)
As part of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), Disciples Women welcomes all to the table as Christ has welcomed us. The ministries of Disciples Women are part of the movement for wholeness in a fragmented world by providing opportunities for spiritual growth, enrichment, education, and creative ministries to enable women to develop a sense of personal responsibility for the whole mission of the church. Find out more about Disciples Women through the links on the right.
We seek to be a network of women committed to the justice-seeking, compassion-focused mission of Jesus Christ with no membership requirements or conditions.
Life in the time of COVID-19: We know that these are times that send us into deep reflection while trying to deal with the practical day-to-day changes. Like ministries everywhere Disciples Women is taking very seriously the call to ‘flatten the curve’ by social distancing, restricting travel and gathering in groups of 10 or less. We hope that you are taking this advice seriously as well.
In the meantime, we are working from home, limiting our exposure as well as possibly exposing others to the virus. We are taking turns doing quick visits to the office to check mail, pay bills, and other essential functions. For the most part, we are not physically present in the office. We continue to work remotely and will continue to answer emails and return your phone calls. Please be patient with any delays you have in shipping and the need to leave a message for us to return your call.
Our work continues and we pray for all of you knowing that your ministry continues as well though they all look very different now.
Greetings All,
When I accepted the call to serve as Program Director and Merger Staff with Disciples Women and National Convocation, I was working with a local family counseling agency pursuing licensure as a Marriage and Family Therapist. In less than a week, I turned in my badge to the agency and received a plane ticket to my first Disciples Women’s assignment. It was an unimaginable swift and glorious transition that only God could have orchestrated.
After much prayer, I have discerned God is calling me to transition again. The time has come for me to, in the words of Katie G. Cannon, “do the work my soul must have.” I will be focusing my time on counseling and sexuality education as spiritual development. January 31, 2021, will be my last day on staff with Disciples Women and National Convocation.
My time here has been full of blessings. I have had the opportunity to share my gifts and experience the endless talents you all have shared with me. I am grateful to have had the divine privilege to serve an amazing God with amazing people like you. Disciples Women and National Convocation are powerful ministries whose work I will continue to support as I take the love and lessons I received into all my future endeavors.
In love and liberation,
Rev. Chesla T. Nickelson

For nearly a decade, Rev. Dr. Patricia Donahoo has been the face of Disciples Women across the Church. Starting her tenure just as the ministry was becoming a self-determining ministry sistered with Disciples Home Missions, she has led through a time of reimagining and change. Because of the strong organization of Disciples Women under her predecessor, reorganizing with women making their own decisions for the direction of the ministry had become a reality.
Donahoo will be retiring June 30, 2021. The search committee will begin its work January 1, 2021.
Donahoo writes, “We have tried to adapt and move to continue to be relevant and effective in serving the Church. We have felt the call to encourage and uplift women to remind them that they, too, are the beloved of God and are called to hear their call and live it out. I trust my successor will continue to accompany and encourage women in their journey with Christ.”
Among the many changes, connections and projects during Donahoo’s tenure are the emphasis on ending human trafficking, a project to include more younger women in women’s ministries, leading Woman-to-Woman Worldwide delegations to five countries, involvement in the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women, and partnerships with Global Ministries around women’s issues.
“I trust that the Disciples Church will continue to be a light in a world that needs hope, love, and justice. I look forward to having the opportunity to serve in my local congregation. My passion for empowering women and reminding them that they are God’s beloved has not waned and I will continue this work in new ways and in new venues.
“My years as Executive Director have been an incredible blessing and I have received love and joy beyond my expectations. During my time and working with talented and dedicated Executive Committee members, difficult decisions have been made and change has been constant. This need for change continues and as our history illustrates, Disciples Women will continue to be catalysts for change and lead the way in mission and ministry.”
Donahoo came to her position from Henson Valley Christian Church in Fort Washington, MD, having also served in pastoral positions in Pennsylvania. She is a third generation Disciple.
