Washington, D.C. (May 13, 2014) — In the midst of a Washington, DC celebration that included a speech by the Vice President, Congressional leaders, a TV actor, and a panel of AAPI leaders over many decades, it was really Asian American youth beat boxers, poets, and artists who stole the show!! UC Berkeley student Maxie Moua wore a traditional Hmong cultural costume, and shared poetry she’d created last year as a high schooler in the Central Valley town of Fresno, Calif., to chronicle her family’s coming to America and describe their challenges faced as refugees. Her writing was a part of a 16 month commitment of students and teachers of the Art Venture Project of McLane High School in Fresno. Read more.
